Checking In to The Benjamin Hotel

No matter how many times I visit New York City there’s always somewhere new to explore and for this visit to the city it was Midtown East. Locating yourself in Midtown for a visit to New York is perfect for first time visitors hoping to experience many of the cities’ iconic sights in one full swoop. The Benjamin Hotel is just a few minutes walk to the classics such as Times Square, the Empire State Building, Rockefeller Centre, and not too far to walk to the South entrance of Central Park.

The Benjamin Hotel in Midtown East

For this visit to New York I was travelling with my mum who had boarded a flight from Australia for her first ever visit to the United States. My mission was simple: show her everything the city has to offer within 5 days. A centrally located hotel is pretty important if you’re trying to hit up all the hot spots of the city, so we were really chuffed with our location on 50th and Lexington Ave, just a walk away to all of the Broadway shows we had bought tickets to, my favourite parks (Bryant Park and Madison Square Park), as well as all the icons of the city being within reach.

When we checked in at the lobby we were pleasantly surprised to hear the words “you have been upgraded” – perhaps there is nothing better than those four words when you’ve landed off a 6:00am flight from LAX to JFK!

The one-bedroom suite was perfect for the two of us as we each had a room of our own (I opted for the pull out couch in the living room) and best of all, the suite featured a huge balcony overlooking Lexington Ave below.

If you can afford the upgrade (or chance it upon arrival), be sure to ask for a corner suite as you can see so much of midtown right from the comfort of your private balcony. We were located on the 18th floor which gives you a great vantage point over the city.

The rooms are typical of a midtown hotel – all the necessary amenities in a sizeable space, but as with most Midtown Hotels they designs are very simple and this definitely feels like a hotel rather than a home away from home.

Welcome amenities include bottled water and a fruit platter, which was quite paired with our bottle of champagne we had brought with us to the hotel to celebrate my mum’s first visit to New York City!

Dining at The National

On the ground floor of the hotel you will find The National serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. They are also responsible for the hotel’s room service, with a classic NYC menu offering the likes of bagels, french fries and burgers.

Thanks to The Benjamin Hotel for welcoming us for our stay in the city! All opinions and photos are my own.
