Checking in to the Storchen Zürich

There are a handful of cities around the world that I never tire of visiting and Zürich is certainly one of them. This was my third visit to the city and my second time staying at the Storchen Hotel, one of Zürich’s most famous and recognised properties due to its location on the river. So, what should you expect of this five star property? Read on to read my full review!

The Storchen Zürich

The Storchen is located in the heart of Zürich, right by Lake Zürich. After a recent renovation, the hotel has now been recognised as not only a five star hotel, but one of the finest properties in the city. And due to its location by the water, this is one of Zürich’s most recognised hotels.

If you’re looking for an extra special hotel in the heart of the city, this is it. And if you book your stay here, be sure to request a river-facing room or suite, because the sunrises out your window are simply incredible! The second image shows the soft evening glow right before sunset, which also makes for a great view from the hotel rooftop (“The Nest”), which opens for guests in the warmer months.

Inside my Room

My room was located on the fifth floor, the highest floor in the hotel for guest rooms and suites. Although the room was quite small, it certainly had everything you could need inside: an ensuite bathroom, a small wardrobe space, the queen size bed and an office desk. But the highlight of the room was not even inside the room itself! The view from these rooms at the Storchen is surely the highlight of staying here, so be sure to book a river-facing room or suite.

Around the Hotel

Aside from the enviable location facing the river, there are a few other reasons to love the Storchen. This hotel is home to the cities’ only cigar lounge, which opens every evening to guests from around the world.

There’s also a fitness centre on the fifth floor of the hotel, equipped with weights, a handful of machines and a few cardio machines (a treadmill and a couple of bicycles). There are also fitness professionals available on demand for private 1:1 coaching.

Dining at The Storchen

During my stay, I had the pleasure of enjoying breakfast each morning in the dining room. This was a true highlight of my stay and such a great way to start each day, ready for a full day of exploring (and getting in those steps!) There’s an a la carte menu to order cooked dishes from, plus a large buffet with the likes of yogurts and mueslis, cold meats and hard boiled eggs. Oh, and croissants of course!
